My Real Story: From Obesity, Disc Bulge & Adenomyosis to Fitness

Introduction

Hi, my name is Girija Rani. I am 41 years old, a homemaker from New Delhi and a mother of two children. Looking back at my life, I realize that my health challenges did not appear overnight, they were the result of years of physical stress, neglecting my own well-being, and constantly putting everyone else’s needs before my own.

This is the story, how I convert myself to an active woman, to a lady struggling with obesity, chronic back pain, hormonal issues, and Adenomyosis . Here I explain how I finally decided to take control of my health and start my fitness journey.

Starting of My Health Challanges

I have done two abortions during different phases of my life. One occurred when my health was not good enough to continue the pregnancy because of my first post delivery time, and the second happened during the first wave of the COVID-19.

The situation made it even more difficult due to the lack of support during and after my pregnancies. I managed everything on my own. There was little time for rest, recovery, or self-care. At that time, I didn’t realize how much this would affect my health in the years to come.

Ignoring the Early Warning Signs

The first symptom I noticed, was continual back pain.

Initially, I ignored it, assuming it was just fatigue from household responsibilities. Over time, the pain became so severe that I could no longer complete household tasks without taking frequent rest. I would work for a while, rest because of the pain, and then continue working again.

Finally, I consulted a doctor. After several blood tests, I was diagnosed with vitamin and calcium deficiencies and was prescribed supplements.

An Unexpected hold-up : Kidney Stones (in ureter)

According to doctor’s advice, I started taking the prescribed supplements. While they helped improve my condition, but later it developed kidney stones and had to undergo treatment for that as well.

After recovering from the kidney stone treatment, I felt much better for 2 or 3 years and I feel my health had finally returned to normal.

Continuous Pain, Pregnancy and Recovery

During my second pregnancy my back pain returned. Doctor prescribed me calcium supplements again, when they did not provide enough relief, doctor was increased the dosage.

After give birth only, one month I rested and then I resumed all household responsibilities. Because of this, my body never received the recovery time it desperately needed.

Soon, I began experiencing severe pain in my back and legs. The pain was so intense that many nights I would rest my legs against the wall, hoping to find some relief. But nothing seemed to work.

Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on My Body

Then the COVID-19 pandemic had come.

Because of lockdown restrictions and my poor physical condition, I could not go to park for walk or some yoga postures. Slowly, my weight started increasing.

Initially, I assumed it was normal postpartum weight gain, Like many women. I believed it would naturally fade with time.

But it didn’t.

My weight extended to rise until I moved from being overweight to clinically obese.

Obesity Started Affect My Daily Life

As my weight increased, many new symptoms emerged:

  • Irregular menstrual cycles
  • Worsening back pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Reduced mobility
  • Frequent urination

One day, the pain became so severe that I could hardly get out of bed. By some way, after taking pain killer, I managed to visit a doctor and done an MRI scan.

The results disclosed that I had a disc bulge, which was responsible for much of my chronic back pain.

Locating the Root Cause

After experiencing multiple medical tests, I finally learned that obesity and hormonal imbalance were significantly contributing to my health problems.

My menstrual cycle became increasingly irregular. Later, I started experiencing spotting every 15 days.

When I consulted my doctor, she advised me that I might be entering perimenopause so monitor the symptoms.

However, the situation continued to worsen. I began experiencing nausea, bloating, and ongoing discomfort.

An ultrasound was performed and I received another problem: Adenomyosis.

My Emotional Struggle Phase

At that time, I knew very little about adenomyosis.

As I researched the condition and learned more about it, I felt Heart Broken. I spent many nights crying alone, wondering how I had become so unhealthy.

I kept asking myself the same question:

“How did I become so sick when I was a very active person?”

Many weeks, I struggled emotionally. I felt disappointed, frustrated and devasted.

The Turning Point

Then one day, something changed.

Instead of focusing on everything that had gone wrong,I decided that I would take responsibility for my health and work toward healing my body. no matter how long it took and no matter how difficult the journey would be.

That decision became the starting point of my fitness journey.

And that is where my transformation story truly begins.
